Happy Valentine’s Day. This is not a holiday I typically get especially excited about. It’s often a reminder of an aspect of love I have not yet experienced. Maybe you enjoy the day, or maybe you don’t. Perhaps you’re indifferent and forget that 14 February has any significance at all. Whatever the case, it’s good to take a moment and reflect on love and its source – God, Who IS love and is madly in love with each of us.
To celebrate this day and remind us all of how much we’re loved, here is an excerpt from chapter 6 of Live Your Story.
“Have you ever been in love? Ever experience the longing for the one you love to choose you and love you in return and felt the elation when he or she did? Ever feel the ache of emptiness it seems only that one person on earth can fill? Ever wait with anticipation for a phone call or email or text from the object of your affection? Ever feel your heart decide whether to stop or speed up when you hear his or her voice after a long absence — or even a short one?
“If you have felt or can imagine feeling any of these emotions, then you have seen an infinitely small glimpse of how God feels about you! He waits with anticipation for every time you will say His name. He longs for you to choose Him. He waits with anticipation to spend time with you and hear what’s on your mind and heart. He is the Lover of your soul and every other part of you.
“One day, several years ago, as I was lamenting my singleness, I asked God what was wrong with me. Why in my mid-twenties had no guy really ever given me a second look, (except maybe that one guy when I was 14)? The still small voice in my mind and heart whispered to me that God had not given me a second glance either because from the moment He caught the first glimpse, He couldn’t tear His eyes away!
“That is how God feels about me, and it’s how He feels about you. If you have given your heart to Jesus, then you are His Bride. He is wild about you! If you have not yet surrendered to His love, this is still how He feels about you. He is captivated by you, and He longs for you to choose Him today and every day forever.
“That last statement may sound odd, but it’s true. Every minute of every day we are bombarded with things that would take our attention. We choose every day and even every moment what will be our focus. The One Who is madly in love with you longs for you to choose Him today even if you have been in a relationship with Him for decades. He craves time with you alone.”
